Yahoo Launches Upgraded Search Crawler - InformationWeek

Yahoo have launched the up-to-the-minute version of its hunt engine, and notified Web land site decision makers of some substructure changes.

The rollout of Slurp 3.0 officially began Monday and is expected to take respective weeks. Among the alterations caused by the ascent would be crawling from a different and much littler set of information science addresses, but still from the crawl.yahoo.net domain.

As a result, land sites using IP-based acknowledgment of sycophants might see a driblet in Yokel activity. "We strongly urge that you travel to change by reversal DNS-based identification of Yokel Slurp if you're using any other method to avoid this problem," Yokel developers said "The current set of IPs will vanish from your Web logs in the adjacent respective weeks."

Yahoo said the sycophants also would print a new user-agent, Yokel Slurp/3.0. Existing robots.txt directives for "Slurp" or "Yahoo Slurp" would still work, but the new sycophant would not acknowledge directives specific to "Slurp/2.0." However, Yokel said use of the latter user-agent is "very rare on the Web, so you won't likely be affected."

Yahoo have put up a for more than details. The alterations are expected to impact the chief Yokel Web Search crawlers.

Research from Web analysis house Hitwise show that users of Yokel hunt are often little and pass less money online than people who prefer Google. Web seekers who utilize the latter are most likely to have got spent more than than $500 online, according to Hitwise.

Yahoo is battling a $40-plus billion coup d'etat command by Microsoft. Yokel that do it more than hard for Microsoft to succeed. The software system maker, however, have said it is prepared to establish a hostile takeover.
